The Walt Disney Company postponed all Russian releases, including Turning Red. This follows the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Initially, the animated film was scheduled to premiere in Russia on March 10. However, Disney took this step to promote humanity.
"In light of the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, we are discontinuing theatrical releases of films in Russia, including Pixar's Turning Red," Disney said in a statement.
Disney will remain open to resuming the film's release in Russia. In addition, Disney also provided reinforcements to Ukrainian citizens who had fled to neighboring countries due to the war.
"We will make future business decisions based on the evolving situation," Disney said.
"Meanwhile, given the scale of the emerging refugee crisis, we are working closely with our NGO partners to provide urgent assistance and other humanitarian assistance to the refugees," he continued.
According to a report from Variety, Disney was the first major film distributor to postpone the screening of films in Russia.
Turning Red will premiere on March 11, 2022, on Disney+ Hotstar. This step was taken because some cinemas in several countries have not normally operated.
Meanwhile, the film will still be showing in theaters for countries that have not yet had Disney+ services.
"Given that the recovery in cinema conditions is still hampered, especially for family films, flexibility is one of the main keys for content distribution at our company," said Kareem Daniel, head of Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution.
